INNOWATECH Anolyte - water treatment and disinfection without use of hazardous goods

INNOWATECH Anolyte is no hazardous substance and no hazardous substances are used in its production - therefore the Aquadron system can be set up anywhere

The pH-neutral INNOWATECH Anolyte® disinfectant is produced using proprietary electrolysis cells with low chloride and chlorate content. Unlike other ECA processes, the process operates in the high and neutral pH range, where virtually no elemental chlorine (Cl2) is produced. This results in high disinfection solution stability and low application concentrations. The formation of disinfection byproducts (THM, AOX, chlorite, chlorate) is thus almost completely avoided.

The in-situ production of INNOWATECH Anolyte® eliminates the aging-related enrichment with chlorate, which occurs in commercially available chlorine bleach solutions and in chlorine dioxide production. In addition to lower production costs, logistics and the in-house handling of hazardous substances are reduced.

Anolyte possesses very high bactericidal, viricidal, and fungicidal efficacy and is much more compatible with materials than conventional disinfectants (chlorine bleach, chlorine dioxide, peracetic acid, etc.). Even at high application concentrations (5-10 ppm), Anolyte is non-corrosive.

The advantages of the INNOWATECH technology over other processes: Due to the special design and control of the electrolysis, the Anolyte is created within the electrolysis cell in the neutral pH range of 6.7 to 7.2. In this pH-range, the proportion of hypochlorous acid, the substance necessary for killing germs, is between 75 - 85 %.

Proportion of elemental chlorine, hypochlorous acid and sodium hypochlorite depending on pH value

By operating the process in the high and neutral pH range, the formation of elemental chlorine (Cl2) is avoided, the most reactive form of free chlorine, which is also capable of chlorinating simple hydrocarbons. Cl2 also reacts very unselectively and poses significant corrosion risks. This plays a major role at higher concentrations in industrial applications. However, it also benefits the lowest possible AOX and THM formation.

INNOWATECH Anolyte® is not available in a highly concentrated form, as this is unnecessary due to the possibility of on-site production by electrolysis, even for larger consumption quantities. The active ingredient concentration is between 200 and 1,500 ppm, depending on the electrolysis cell used, and thus less than 0.2 percent by weight. This eliminates any hazards or stability issues. The activity of the active ingredient and its stability, which also depend on the conditions applied during production, are maximized through an optimal manufacturing process.

To achieve this and to remain technologically ahead in the future, INNOWATECH also operates its own laboratory. Here, key anolyte parameters, for example, can be analyzed using ion chromatography during the development of new electrolysis cells.

A further advantage is the on-site production of the anolyte: This means that the typical residence time of the anolyte concentrate in the storage tank of the INNOWATECH Aquadron system is typically only a few hours. Age-related accumulation of higher oxidized chlorine species, such as chlorate or perchlorate, which are found in commercially available chlorine bleach solutions, is avoided. Furthermore, the user can produce the required amount of anolyte very cost-effectively on demand using only drinking water, table salt, and electricity – thus eliminating the need for logistics and the in-house handling of hazardous substances.

Another important advantage of INNOWATECH systems is their ability to be easily integrated into existing systems.
