Transport chlorination in municipial water service without the use of hazardous substances

Drinking water is obtained from a wide variety of water sources. It can come from rivers, lakes, springs, or deep wells. Usually, "raw water" needs to be treated before it can be supplied to people. Depending on the water quality, different processes are used for this purpose, like flocculation, filtration, adsorption, and oxidative processes. Once the treatment process is finished, the water that's produced meets the standards for drinking water, so it can be made available to the public.

Many water suppliers transport the drinking water over long distances, sometimes through several reservoirs, before delivering it to consumers. Drinking water is not sterile after treatment; a small number of germs always remain. To prevent these germs from multiplying or to keep their numbers as low as possible, drinking water must be disinfected at many water treatment plants before being pumped through transport pipes to consumers. The disinfectant must comply with the Drinking Water Ordinance's requirements, and its purity and limit values must meet the specifications of the Drinking Water Ordinance.

Here are some of the benefits of using INNOWATECH ECA technology in waterworks:

INNOWATECH Anolyt

  • is highly effective against all relevant germ
  • is produced on site, just in time
  • is low in concentration (less than 0.2% active ingredient)
  • has a high degree of purity
  • reduces the formation of disinfection by-products, such as THM, chlorate, and chlorite
  • is not a hazardous substance and does not pollute water
  • is a liquid, not a gas that needs to be dissolved in water
  • is pH-neutral and does not contain elemental chlorine or chlorine gas
  • is extremely stable and does not gasify
  • is still detectable after >20 km of piping at low dosages
  • requires no hazardous substances for production, only common salt tablets, water, and a small amount of electricity
  • can also be used for surface disinfection
  • is inexpensive to produce at less than 10 euros per 1,000 liters of active ingredient
  • has low operating costs of less than 1.0 cents per cubic meter of drinking water

INNOWATECH Aquadron systems and Multi-Measuring Centers (MMC)

  • have a very long service life of over 20 years
  • are low-wear and reliable
  • contain electrolysis cells with a warranty of 35,000 operating hours
  • enable just-in-time active ingredient production, which prevents chlorate formation due to long storage times
  • the Active ingredient storage is liter-accurate
  • the MMC continuously measures and documents free chlorine, pH, conductivity, redox, temperature, etc.
  • the measuring probes in the MMC are easily calibrated thanks to a high degree of automation
  • requires little maintenance
  • are produced in Baden-Württemberg/Germany

Legal Requirements:

  •   The process and active ingredient comply with the "List of Treatment Substances and Disinfection Processes" in accordance with §20 of the German Drinking Water Ordinance.
